At this free community event, your child will get hands-on experience on goal-setting and overcoming difficulties.
In conjunction with World Astronomy Day, the theme of this event is "Reach for the Stars!"
We will hear from an enthusiast and lifelong student of astronomy , about some mind-blowing ideas from what we have learned about space in recent years.
Your child will be guided to create their "star" by using cyanotypes--the older photography process using the sun's UV rays. At the same time, you, the parents, will be given a Karate wooden board on which to write one obstacle that keeps your child back from pursuing their goal.
The highlight of the event is when you hold the board for your child as they break using a technique we will teach them. The boards are "confidence boards", i.e., easily breakable to give them the feeling of confidence.
And oh, yes. There will also be a party.
And raffles for prizes!
You child will go home with physical items that are concrete reminders of what they could achieve:
- a craft project with their goal written on it,
- broken boards
AND, more importantly, fun memories and the exhilaration of having done something that made themselves proud.
The event is FREE but because space is limited, please sign up before all the spots are gone.
